ZLIN: A CITY THAT CONNECTS ARCHITECTURE, NATURE, AND EXPERIENCES

Zlín is a city that surprises with its diversity. Functionalist architecture, rich history, surrounding nature, and unexpected places attract visitors not only from the Czech Republic. Here you will find the most beautiful zoo in the Czech Republic, the first skyscraper with a moving office, the largest collection of footwear, and an interactive map museum that delights both children and adults.

New edition

Just a few kilometers from the center of Zlín is the Zlín Zoo, one of the most visited zoos in the Czech Republic, which many consider to be the most beautiful.  In the natural biopark, you can admire more than 200 species of animals from four continents of the world. The area is divided according to geographical regions, so during a single visit, you can walk through Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America.

A major attraction is the newly opened rescue and breeding center for lions, which is a unique feature in the Czech Republic. It is intended not only for the existing pride but also for lions taken from unsuitable private breeding. Among the greatest experiences are the herd of elephants or the jaguar female Mayara, who often enchants visitors with her playfulness. In the ray bay, you can feed and pet more than 20 sea rays, walk through the rainforest in the Yucatan tropical hall, or admire the majestic vultures in the huge Gora Ark aviary, which is the longest aviary for vultures in the Czech Republic. You can also visit the fairytale castle Lešná in the zoo, which will literally take your breath away with its richly decorated wooden interior.

In the center of Zlín, you must not miss the vast industrial complex with the iconic Building 21, also known as Baťa's skyscraper. It is the first skyscraper with a moving office in the elevator, which you can ride and enjoy an experience you won't soon forget. In the skyscraper, you will also find the longest paternoster in the Czech Republic, which is still in operation and fascinates both small and large visitors. From the rooftop observation terrace with telescopes of the same type as those known from American skyscrapers, you will have the most beautiful view of the city and the surrounding hills.

At the 14|15 BAŤA INSTITUTE in the Museum of South Moravia, you will find a unique exhibition called the Baťa Principle, which will introduce you to the phenomenon of this famous brand and the largest collection of footwear in Central Europe. You will see a shoemaker's workshop, the original production line for shoes, advertising signs, dozens of Baťa products, and hundreds of shoes from around the world. You will admire footwear made from various materials – from traditional leather and textiles to wood or plastics, and even curiosities like ostrich feathers, hammered silver, or even human hair. The exhibition also includes presentations of travelers Hanzelka and Zikmund and their legendary Tatra 87.

An interesting experience is also offered by the interactive map museum – the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic. You can try your hand at being a cartographer, test your knowledge on a blank map of the Czech Republic or Europe, or create your own landscape model on an interactive sand model. In addition, you will learn many interesting facts about the history and present of mapping, geography, and cartography. On the flight simulator, you will experience what it is like to pilot an airplane and at the same time virtually fly over Zlín or any other destination in the world.

In Zlín, you can also spend pleasant days during the Advent season. From November 28 to December 23, 2025, the city center will be filled with stalls offering traditionalfresh, Christmas goods and handmade products. The Christmas atmosphere will be complemented by a rich cultural and accompanying program, during which local artists, choirs, bands, folklore groups, and famous interpreters of the Czech music scene such as Mňága a Žďorp, Petr Bende, or O5 and Radeček will perform. Come enjoy Advent Zlín with your loved ones, soak up the festive atmosphere, and get to know the city in its magical winter time.

The museum in Kunovice has ranked among the world's elite. It has acquired an ultralight from the 1930s.

The aviation museum in Kunovice acquired a new aircraft for its collection at the end of March. It is the HM-14 machine nicknamed Pou-du-Ciel, or Heavenly Flea. "It was a kind of predecessor to today's ultralight aircraft. People built Heavenly Fleas at home in the 1930s and 1940s according to a book guide. Anyone with a bit of skill could manage it," says the museum director Martin Hrabec about it.
