What can you look forward to? A unique experience will be offered by the live musical accompaniment to the film The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Karel Zeman, performed by the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jan Kučera. The main characters – apprentice Krabat and his Master – will be voiced by David Švehlík and Karel Dobrý, and the overall atmosphere will be enhanced by a children's choir. Lovers of unconventional musical instruments will also be pleased – for example, Hammond organs, marimba, electric guitar, and accordion will be featured.
The film The Sorcerer's Apprentice, directed by Karel Zeman in 1977 based on the book by Otfried Preussler, is inspired by an old Sorbian legend about the battle between good and evil. This timeless story is now coming to life in a unique stage adaptation. Immerse yourself in the unforgettable adventure of a boy who, on the brink of adulthood, approaches dark forces and is fascinated by them until he realizes they can destroy him.
“This gem of Czech animation beautifully haunted my childhood as well. It is an honor to revive it with live music. The music is very intricate and complex to synchronize, but it will be a unique audiovisual experience,” says Jan Kučera, who, together with Zdeňka Košnarová, reconstructed the original sheet music.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice offers a rare opportunity to experience the famous film in a completely new way – as a performance that combines film, music, and theater into a single breathtaking experience.
