Museum Montanelli: ME! BEDŘICH DLOUHÝ

The Montanelli Museum will present the work of Bedřich Dlouhý, one of the most prominent figures in Czech post-war art. The paintings and objects come from the Montanelli Museum's own collection. They will provide visitors with the opportunity to engage with the work of an artist whose original artistic language combines precise painting, imagination, symbolism, and a distinctive irony.

Unlike in academically and systematically organized chronological exhibitions, the museum this time focuses more on the memory of past meetings with Bedřich Dlouhý, on the atmosphere of the space in dialogue with the exhibited work, and takes the viewer to a completely unexpected place where Bedřich Dlouhý spent his creative life — in his own studio.

Bedřich Dlouhý, associated with the Šmidrová group, developed an unmistakable approach to painting throughout his life. In his works, he connected realistically captured details with surprising contexts and created pictorial worlds in which the mundane transforms into a disturbing yet poetic spectacle.

The exhibited work raises questions of identity, memory, and the relationship between reality and its artistic interpretation. It invites the viewer to a careful gaze and to discover meanings that gradually reveal themselves beneath the surface of the painting.

By presenting works from its own collection, Museum Montanelli highlights the importance of long-term care for Czech visual art and making fundamental works of art accessible to the public.

Traditionally, on Czech Statehood Day, Zoo Prague celebrates the anniversary of its opening – this time with the number 95! For Monday, September 28, the zoo has prepared a festive program in the presence of special guests. Interested visitors can have their hairstyles done for free in the style of that era and dance to the music of a live swing band.
