Dagmar Pecková: A voice that conquered the world. And a personality that never feared to speak the truth.

Dagmar Pecková: A voice that conquered the world. And a personality that never feared to speak the truth.

From London's Covent Garden to Berlin and New York. Dagmar Pecková is one of the Czech artists who has made a name for herself on the most prestigious opera stages in the world. However, her story is not just about music, applause, and great roles. It is also about courage, freedom, life twists, and the ability to stay true to oneself. On Monday, October 12th at 7 PM, this exceptional mezzo-soprano will be a guest on the talk show "Hovory Marka Kováře" at the Art-n-Coffee gallery and café in Prague.

Dagmar Pecková has never been an artist who would settle for the role of an opera diva. Her career began after studying at the Prague Conservatory in 1985 at the Semper Opera in Dresden. World stages followed, collaborations with prominent conductors, and roles that placed her among the respected figures of the international opera scene.

In 2000, she received the Thalia Award for Carmen at the National Theatre. The character of the free-spirited and untamed Carmen seems to reflect her own temperament in many ways. Pecková has never been afraid to cross boundaries, whether artistic or social.

In addition to opera, she engages in drama, literature, and her own music festival, Zlatá Pecka. In her books and public appearances, she manages to speak with perspective, irony, and disarming openness about fame, relationships, professional challenges, and moments when life does not offer simple answers.

When Art Meets Real Life

The setting of the Art-n-Coffee gallery and café in the Passage of Czech Design is not a random backdrop for the meeting with Dagmar Pecková. This unique cultural space in the historic center of Prague was established in 2015 by Hana and Ondřej Homolk with the idea of connecting visual arts with everyday life.

Among the original stone sculptures by artists from Zimbabwe and works by Czech artists, visitors do not just sit with coffee. They become part of a vibrant cultural space where exhibitions, openings, concerts, author meetings, lectures, and discussions regularly take place.

Art-n-Coffee thus presents an interesting alternative to traditional galleries and cultural halls. Art here is not separated from everyday life but naturally enters it. And it is precisely the intimate atmosphere that allows for meetings with prominent personalities on a much more personal level.

Behind the Scenes of World Opera Houses

What is it like to survive in the extraordinarily competitive world of opera? What remains hidden behind the famous roles and the applause of the audience? And how does the perspective on success, freedom, and personal life priorities change?

Such themes are offered for the conversation between Marek Kovář and Dagmar Pecková. The evening will also provide space for audience questions.

One thing is certain: Dagmar Pecková has a career that many dream of. And above all, she has stories to tell.

Conversations M with Dagmar Pecková will take place on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Art-n-Coffee gallery and café, Na Příkopě 860/24, Prague 1, in the Passage of the Czech National Bank.

Taste Mělnicko: Sometimes all it takes for good food is just to take a turn off the road.

How many times do we pass by an interesting place without even noticing it? And how many times do we search for good food somewhere far away, even though we have it almost around the corner? This idea gave rise to the project Taste Mělnicko, which connects gastronomy with travel and shows our region in a slightly different way.

Morricone conducts Morricone. Tickets for the exceptional concert in Prague are disappearing at an astonishing rate!

There are melodies where just a few initial notes can instantly conjure an entire film in front of your eyes. The music of Ennio Morricone has long transcended the boundaries of the movie screen. On November 10, it will resonate in Bratislava at the Tipos Arena, and a day later, on November 11, it will also be performed in Prague at the O2 Universe, conducted by the person who has the closest relationship to it, the orchestra led by the famous composer’s son, Andrea Morricone. Interest in this extraordinary concert is high, and tickets are disappearing from sale at a dizzying pace. The opportunity to experience immortal film melodies live, performed by top musicians who personally collaborated with the Maestro, is becoming increasingly rare.
