Evening science festival with experiments, lectures, and entertainment at universities, museums, and scientific institutions across the Czech Republic.
The Night of Scientists is an annual nationwide event that opens the doors of science to the general public during unconventional evening and nighttime hours. On one evening, usually at the end of September, dozens of universities, research centers, observatories, museums, and other institutions across the Czech Republic come together to present science in a way that you don't usually see – up close, interactively, and often in a fun way.
Visitors can look forward to hundreds of program blocks: guided demonstrations of experiments, live lectures, science shows, workshops, hands-on activities, tours of laboratories and research facilities that are typically not open to the public. The event is aimed at all age groups – from children and school students to adults, both laypeople and enthusiasts. Many activities are interactive, allowing visitors to try things out for themselves, handle materials, or ask scientists questions directly.
Each year has its central theme. In 2025, the Night of Scientists will celebrate its 20th anniversary and will thematically focus on "Wealth" – whether it concerns natural resources, cultural values, data, knowledge, or intellectual horizons. The event takes place in more than 50 cities and involves over 30 universities, dozens of research institutions, museums, and other organizations.
Most of the program is free and does not require registration. The only exceptions are selected events with limited capacity (e.g., specialized excursions or nighttime observations at observatories).
