ARCHITECTURE DAY WITH AMOPEM AND THE ASSOCIATION FOR BEAUTIFUL OLOMOUC: INSPIRATION FOR A TRIP TO THE ARCHITECTURE OF OLOMOUC REGION

From Thursday, October 2 to Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the entire republic will come alive with architecture. For the fifteenth time, Architecture Day is being held, a festival that opens the doors to buildings that are usually inaccessible, invites walks, lectures, and unconventional experiences. This year's theme is "That Architecture" – a female perspective in architecture, from the early pioneers of the First Republic to contemporary female architects. The event is organized by the Prague association Kruh, and in Olomouc and its surroundings, the association Za krásnou Olomouc is participating with the AMOP project (Architectural Manual of the Přerov District) and the Rudolf Eitelberger Award. This year's program is fine-tuned to the last detail, so let's introduce it in detail.

New edition

On Friday, October 3rd at 5:30 PM we will kick off the Day of Architecture in Přerov with a lecture by Rostislav Švácha - The First Lady of Czech Architecture. The leading Czech architectural historian will guide you through the life and work of Alena Šrámková (1929–2022). We will explore her persistent search for (un)ordinariness, severity, and timelessness in architecture. The lecture will focus on key projects and buildings, emphasizing the Tyrš Bridge in Přerov. The event will take place at the Sokolovna and is expected to last 90 minutes.

The following day, on Saturday, October 4th at 10:00 AM, you can embark on a guided walk through Teplice nad Bečvou. The start is in front of the Bečva spa house. Architectural historians Jana Kiesewetterová and Lucie Janečková will guide you through the picturesque spa town, following the unique buildings of architects Ella and Oskar Oehler/Olárových. The expected duration of the event is 90 minutes.

On Saturday evening, we will have the ceremonial presentation of the Rudolf Eitelberger Award 2025. The announcement of the ninth year of the award by the association For Beautiful Olomouc for successful implementation in the fields of architecture, urbanism, and heritage care in Olomouc and the Olomouc region for the period 2023–2025. Treat yourself on Saturday October 4, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Central Cinema in Olomouc to a showcase of the best that has emerged in the Olomouc region in architecture, urbanism, and heritage care over the past two years. What inspiring projects from the nominations by both professional and lay public made it to the finals of this year’s expert committee? And above all, who will become the laureate of the prestigious Rudolf Eitelberger Award 2025 and receive the unique trophy? And who exactly was Rudolf Eitelberger? The award is named after the Olomouc native Rudolf Eitelberger von Edelberg (1817–1885), a respected founder of museums, modern art history, and heritage care across Europe, and a commentator on political, architectural, and urban events.

Following the trail of the architectural couple Ella and Oskar Oehler/Olárových, we will also set out on Sunday, October 5th. At 10:00 AM, starting from Bartošova Street 2300/14, for a guided walk through Přerov. With art historian Tereza Holoubková, we will explore their significant realizations from the interwar period, which imparted elements of modern, functionalist architecture to Přerov – for example, the administrative building and pavilion of the Kazeto factory or the pavilion of the Central Moravian Power Plants. The expected duration of the event is 90 minutes.

Another guided walk with the poetic title "To the Girls on the Facade" begins on Sunday, October 5th at 2:00 PM in Olomouc. The meeting point is in front of the astronomical clock at Horní náměstí, where architectural historian Jana Kiesewetterová and polonist Jan Jeništa will be waiting for you. During this walking tour, we will explore not only the facades of the buildings but also the stories of the women who actively participated in the cultural and artistic life of the city. The expected duration of the event is 90 minutes.

This year’s program also considers the youngest visitors of the festival. On Sunday, October 5th, in Hranice na Moravě, children aged 7 to 12 can experience a program called Street, River, Garden, and Character. A creative walk for parents with children will start at 2:30 PM from the Marian Column in the square, and the expected duration of the event is 90 minutes.

In the role of guide on a journey not only through architecture will be Michaela Johnová Čapková.
