The Golden Cross delicacies have been part of the Prague gastro scene for over a hundred years. Since 1916, Alois Zoufalý has been attracting visitors with luxurious sandwiches featuring lobster and champagne. Later, a different era came – generations of Prague residents still remember the ham sandwich on salad, 150 grams of Russian salad with a roll, or traditional pastries. However, gradually the Golden Cross lost its luster, and when it finally closed in 2024, the media wrote about the end of an era.

But sometimes an end is the beginning of a new story. Thegastro team from Qwix Foods decided to revive the Golden Cross and restore its former glory. They sought inspiration primarily from the time of the First Republic, when the open-faced sandwich was perceived as a Czech invention – our own fast food.

Our vision is to take this tradition further, to perfect theopen-faced sandwich and give it a modern twist. In our offer, you will find both the most popular classics – salad with ham, egg, camembert or anchovy – as well as original new creations. For example, the Mushroom sandwich with truffle spread and sautéed mushrooms, the Czech Made Man with homemade pork belly and ham, or the Mafia sandwich with Parma ham and mozzarella. We also consider current trends – we offer gluten-free options, lighter and healthier sandwiches, and vegan specialties. In short, everyone will find something for themselves – whether it's a tried-and-true classic or bold new flavors.

After the renovation, we have prepared a pleasant seating area, but we have also preserved several traditional standing tables. Alongside the sandwiches, we offer a carefully curated selection of Moravian and Italian wines, plenty of prosecco, draft beer, and homemade lemonade. Our baristas prepare not only classic coffee drinks but also modern specialties – for example, protein coffee or matcha latte with strawberries. We bake our own pastries and cakes, emphasizing high-quality ingredients and honest craftsmanship. In addition to traditional desserts, our guests love pistachio cream puffs, Dubai wind cakes, or San Sebastian cheesecake. We also cater to special diets – we can prepare gluten-free, lactose-free, diabetic, and vegan desserts. In the summer, we make our own ice cream, and besides classic flavors like vanilla or chocolate, we offer original combinations – such as liqueur cream or kefir with blueberries.

Catering is also an essential part of our service. Because every celebration deserves sandwiches! We prepare mini canapés and sweets that will delight even the most discerning gourmets. We deliver to corporate parties, coffee breaks, and private celebrations. Thanks to our capabilities, we can handle large last-minute orders. Innovation is one of the main pillars of the new concept of the Golden Cross. We opened just three months ago, but we already want to go further and push boundaries. We plan to introduce more original sandwiches (how about a Svickova sandwich?), evening live music, interesting programs for our regular customers, and – who knows – maybe even the very first "mayonnaise rave" party in the Czech Republic.

Comic-Con Prague 2026 is approaching! Giancarlo Esposito, Iain Glen, and other acting stars will be attending.
The seventh edition of Comic-Con Prague is gradually revealing more international and domestic guests and program news. THE LARGEST TRANSPORT SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE PROJECT: CZECH BISON HAVE ARRIVED IN AZERBAIJAN
European bison from Prague Zoo and Olomouc Zoo have arrived in Azerbaijan. In Shahdag National Park, they will strengthen the local reintroduced population in the wild. Additionally, the original quartet of females has become a quintet – during the wait for transport, which was delayed due to the risk of foot-and-mouth disease, a calf was born to the Prague cow. The transport, organized last week by Tierpark Berlin and the German branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), was the largest of its kind. A total of eighteen animals headed to the foothills of the Greater Caucasus: twelve bison from German, Austrian, Hungarian, and Czech zoos and six from the Rothaargebirge mountains.
