Hotel Jalta was built on the site of a house that was destroyed during an American bombing raid in the spring of 1945. The house was demolished, and in its place, the Jalta hotel began to rise in 1953, complete with a secret anti-atomic shelter. The hotel was created at the request of the President of Czechoslovakia, Antonín Zápotocký, and was designed by architect Antonín Tenzer in the style of so-called Stalinist Baroque.
