DANCE PRAGUE 2026: The 38th edition of the international contemporary dance festival invites you to Prague and the regions.

The 38th edition of the TANEC PRAHA festival will welcome artists from 12 countries around the world this year: from Spain, Ukraine, France, Greece, Italy, Belgium, Cameroon, Brazil, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, and Latvia. Czech artists are involved in a total of five co-production projects.

New edition

In Prague, the festival will present 20 performances over the course of 24 days, and in the regions, we are negotiating with twenty partners about foreign and domestic productions, so the festival will traditionally take place at approximately 20 locations in the Czech Republic from June 1 to June 23, 2026.

The opening of the festival at Ponec – a theater for dance in Prague will be accompanied by a performance by the acclaimed duo Guy Nader & Maria Campos – GN|MC. Their Natural Order of Things will thus kick off on June 1, marking the peak month of the entire contemporary dance season with a multidisciplinary crossover. The GN|MC company is led by a Lebanese-Spanish duo based in Barcelona. The works of GN|MC are presented on leading world stages. The performance Natural Order of Things premiered at the Grec Festival and won three Spanish Max Awards 2025 – for best choreography and female performance (Maria Campos) as well as male performance (Alfonso Aguilar).

At the closing festival at the Musical Theater in Karlín, we have managed to secure Christos Papadopoulos. My Fierce Ignorant Step is the latest work by one of the most prominent choreographers on the contemporary European scene. His creation grows from the highest form of minimalism. From a gentle rhythm, movement gradually emerges, layering and canonically developing into a fascinating harmony – an euphoric celebration of life and community. Synchronization here is not a goal, but a consequence of shared movement: “We do not dance together because we are synchronized. We are synchronized because we dance together,” adds the Greek choreographer.

The accompanying program will kick off in May with workshops led by prominent figures performing at the festival – Guy Nader & Maria Campos and Kiko López & Hector Plaza. During the festival, additional workshop formats (e.g., La Chachi), After Talks, and Open Rehearsals will be added, among others.

The TANEC PRAHA festival selects from hundreds of viewed performances and offers from foreign artists works that bring unexpected experiences to the Czech audience, inspiring with their original approach, concept, authenticity, and interpretive quality. It manages to follow events not only in Europe, while the festival also responds to the current situation in the world. Supporting the artistic diaspora from Ukraine, which fled the war to EU countries, has been one of the pillars of the program for the fifth year.

“Welcoming renowned personalities from the world dance scene again is an honor for us. Moreover, the discovery of last season is Zora Snake, whose appeal for the protection of the rainforest is an extraordinary experience. The theme of the relationship with nature also runs through other works for adults and children,” says Yvona Kreuzmannová, the founder and director of the festival, adding: “This year, themes of femininity, resilience, but also a light-hearted view of the role of women and various expectations are also prominently featured.”
