The Polish Film Festival Prague is not just a showcase of films – it is an open space where image meets music, the past meets the present, and the viewer meets the artist. For one week, Prague transforms into a place where culture regains its original meaning - to touch, connect, and inspire. „Every year we strive to show that film can be more than just an image on a screen. It is a language with which we can talk about pain, hope, and the changes in the world around us. The new name emphasizes our focus on Polish cinema, but the idea remains the same – to connect cultures and offer a space where art becomes a dialogue,“ says the festival director Vavřinec Menšl.
We reveal the first stars of this year's edition
The film festival reveals the first names of this edition along with four extraordinary films that share the courage to see the world as it truly is. Each of the films brings a different perspective on the human experience – from pain and hope to the strength to find meaning again in the chaos of the world.
DOM DOBRY (HOME) – directed by: Wojciech Smarzowski (competition, premiere)
One of the most prominent Polish directors presents a chilling psychological thriller about a relationship that turns into a trap. Dom dobry reveals a painful truth about love, control, and fear – how easily home can become the most dangerous place. A film that hurts but cannot be avoided.
- Guest: Wojciech Smarzowski
SOLIDARITY ACCORDING TO WOMEN – directed by: Marta Dzido (documentary)
Director and writer Marta Dzido brings an award-winning documentary that returns the voice to women from the Polish opposition movement of the 1980s. Solidarity According to Women is a powerful mosaic about courage, quiet heroism, and the need to rewrite history from a female perspective. A film that changes memory and presence.
- Guest: Marta Dzido
THE LOSS OF BALANCE – directed by: Korek Bojanowski (competition, premiere)
A psychological drama set in an acting school, where the dream of art turns into a dangerous game of trust and ego. The Loss of Balance explores the thin line between role and reality, between fascination and manipulation. A film that questions how much one must sacrifice to be real.
- Guest: Korek Bojanowski
MINGHUN – directed by: Jan P. Matuszyński | screenplay: Grzegorz Łoszewski (competition, premiere)
A sensitive and visually stunning film about loss, faith, and reconciliation, connecting Polish reality with the Chinese ritual „marriage after death“. Minghun is a poetic meditation on love that transcends life and death, and on finding quiet beauty even in pain.
- Guest: Grzegorz Łoszewski
Central Europe in the accompanying program
Although this year's festival carries the new name Polish Film Festival Prague, it retains what made the original 3Kino exceptional – Central European openness and dialogue between cultures, history, and art. Therefore, the accompanying program includes projects that transcend the boundaries of the film screen – a marathon of student films from leading schools in the region, exhibitions inspired by memory and freedom, and musical performances that connect classical with experimental.
A special highlight will be the restored screening of the legendary silent film The Organist at St. Vitus, accompanied by original music by composer Jan Rybář – a project that reopens the question of how old film images can communicate with today's viewer and how the silence of the past can be translated into a new language of sound, rhythm, and emotion. Jerzy Armata (member of the festival's dramaturgical council): „From previous years, I know that viewers leave our screenings changed. I believe this will be the case again this year. And it is precisely in this that I see the purpose of our festival. Come, listen, and let yourself be drawn into stories that transcend boundaries.“
