The building was acquired by the museum 10 years ago through a gratuitous transfer from the Fire Rescue Service, which used it as a storage facility for civil protection resources. After a complete renovation, extensive sub-collections of metal tools and jewelry from the defunct company Jablonex, previously housed in rented spaces in nearby Lučany nad Nisou, as well as so-called special collections, were moved here. “We are talking about hundreds of thousands of items, the inventory and digitization of which will be a task for our employees for several upcoming decades,” said museum director Milada Valečková. The entire museum collection counts several million items, further stored in the main building and in the facility on Mlýnská Street.
Guided tours take place at 9, 11, 13, and 15 o'clock, with a maximum capacity of 10 people for each. Registration in advance is required by September 11 on the museum's website. “Without prior mutually confirmed registration, no one will be allowed entry. We are obliged to adhere to a very strict regime for the storage facilities,” Valečková added. In case of high interest, the museum will consider repeating the event on additional dates, possibly in other buildings.
On this day, interested parties will find a traditional stop on the family discovery route through the city of Jablonec nad Nisou at the main building. The exhibition GLASSIFICATION.HU - Masters of Glass from Hungary will be accessible for free, and there will be reduced admission to the permanent exhibitions.
