EXPERIENCE 1318 MINUTES IN KUTNÁ HORA

Just an hour from Prague lies a town where medieval history meets contemporary art – Kutná Hora. Gothic churches, mysterious alleyways, and the vibrant atmosphere of the town draw you into stories that unfold here every day. This unique experience is captured in the photographic publication 1318 Minutes in Kutná Hora, which received the prestigious IMPACT Award at Designblok 2025.

New edition

Designblok is the largest design and fashion festival in Central Europe, held annually in Prague, showcasing leading designers, studios, and emerging talents from around the world. The architectural concept of the authentic installation created for Designblok 2025 was designed by Studio ORA, with construction by miriki studio.

The publication offers an original perspective on the town through the symbolic 1318 minutes – approximately 22 hours of life in Kutná Hora. It captures one full day and night in the city as it can be experienced by any visitor. We follow an imagined walk of a person discovering the beauty of this remarkable place during a typical autumn day. The book presents not only iconic landmarks, but also subtle moments of everyday life.

The photographs bring an unconventional view of well-known historical buildings as well as overlooked corners that many visitors might easily miss. The authors explore the city from unexpected angles, revealing the beauty of its houses, streets, and details that shape its unique character. The title 1318 Minutes in Kutná Hora carries a dual meaning: it represents 22 hours – a full day one can spend in the town – and also refers to the year 1318, when Kutná Hora was granted city status, a moment that significantly shaped its history and development.

The publication was created by the photographic duo BoysPlayNice, copywriter Ondřej Horák, and graphic design studio Studio Milan Nedvěd. Together, they produced a work on the border of photography and visual poetry, guiding readers through both visual and emotional experiences. Rather than a traditional travel guide, the book offers an aesthetic and emotional journey, inviting readers to explore the town in their own way.

An international jury led by Yoko Choy, Editor-in-Chief of Wallpaper China, praised the publication for its strong visual language and cultural significance. The book was introduced to the public through a temporary exhibition at the Spolkový dům at the beginning of 2026.

Leafing through 1318 Minutes in Kutná Hora feels like a slow walk through the city – from the quiet of early morning, through the lively late morning, afternoon light, and evening calm, to the softly lit streets and historic façades at night. And it may inspire you to do the best thing of all: visit Kutná Hora in person, discover your own favorite corners, and take home not only memories, but also this unique publication.

You can purchase the book directly in Kutná Hora at the Information Centre in the Sankturinovský House.
