The annual orchid exhibition brings joy from colorful flowers after the harsh winter, as well as a number of interesting facts about these exceptional plants.
The Botanical Garden of the Capital City of Prague in Troja will transform into a place full of exotic stories, adventures, and beauty. From February 27, a popular orchid exhibition will take place here, which this year will carry the subtitle "Journeys of Discoverers." Visitors will be taken not only to the tropical landscapes from which these fascinating plants originate but also to the time of the first Czech greenhouses and the beginnings of exotic species cultivation in Europe and the Czech lands. The exhibition in the Fata Morgana greenhouse will showcase a rich collection of orchids from the garden's collections as well as from other growers. Through thematic panels, interested parties will learn about the personalities behind the discoveries of these plants and find out how orchids made their way to Europe and to Czech growers. Workshops will be held on weekends, where participants can create, for example, an original greenhouse with houseplants, and every Saturday in March, lectures by experts, not only from the botanical garden, will be dedicated to green cultivation and interesting facts from the plant world. The exhibition in the Fata Morgana greenhouse will last until March 15.
"Orchids are among the most attractive collections in our botanical garden, and the exhibitions enjoy great public interest. This season, we have dedicated ourselves to evolution in the plant world, and the orchid showcase will focus on the history of their discoveries and their journey to Czech and European growers. Lovers of these beautiful flowers can also take home one of the plants," invites Bohumil Černý, the director of the Botanical Garden of the Capital City of Prague, to the exhibition in the Fata Morgana greenhouse. The Botanical Garden of the Capital City of Prague has been cultivating orchids since 1995, exhibitions have been held since 2006, and the collection now includes approximately 2,300 species, many of which are presented to the public during popular exhibition events.
