Summer cinema: Blue Velvet

Student Jeffrey Beaumont returns to his hometown of Lumberton to help his father in the store. During one of his walks around the area, he finds a severed human ear in the grass and hands it over to police inspector Williams. From his daughter, the naive Sandy, he gains more information about the case. He learns about the existence of a woman named Dorothy Vallens and heads to the nightclub where she sings. Dorothy fascinates him, and he breaks into her apartment, where he soon witnesses a brutal rape. Later, he discovers that Dorothy's husband and child are in the hands of Frank Booth, a psychopathic killer. Director David Lynch takes the audience into a world of violence and sexual perversion in his psychothriller, a world that hides behind the idyllic facade of an American provincial town, behind its blooming and meticulously maintained gardens.
