The costume concept is created by designer Zuzana Kubíčková, known not only for her original fashion but also for collaborating with prominent Czech personalities. She is now faced with the challenge of dressing 26 dancers – showgirls and showboys. Each costume is unique. Each is made to measure. And each must withstand the demanding cabaret tempo.
“We put the same care into the costumes as we do into any other project. The Spirala space is unique in that the audience sees the stage from all sides and angles, and they are very close to the stage, so every detail, proportion, cut choice, and the quality of materials used is important,” says Zuzana Kubíčková.

Burlesque is not cheap entertainment. It is a highly stylized genre – artistic, dramatic, and craftily precise. Unlike regular theater, costumes here do not only serve as decorations for the character. They are a tool. They communicate. They move the light. They strip. They play.
“The basic inspiration is the female and male body, but also the world that is created around it,” says producer and performer Terézia Bělčáková alias Miss Cool Cat. “We want to transport the audience to another world – decadent, dreamy, beautiful. And the costumes play a key role in that.”
Each piece of clothing goes through several phases – from the initial designs, through material tuning and pattern development, to individual fittings, because bodies in burlesque do not uniform. On the contrary – they celebrate their differences. Most models are hand-decorated, and there are also original accessories, masks, or jewelry. Collaboration with the rest of the team is essential – choreography by Monina Nevrlé, scenography by Marek Cpina, and the visual direction of the project.

And will there be sparkle, sequins, and pearls? Definitely. Zuzana Kubíčková likes them, but she uses them sparingly and purposefully. Where they truly make sense. “We want to show the audience something unique, so they can forget their everyday worries for a moment and experience something extraordinary.”
The Saturn Revue will premiere on September 4, 2025, at Prague's Nová Spirala. Audiences can look forward to a unique combination of live music, dance, burlesque, and visually striking scenography. Tickets and further information can be found at www.novaspirala.cz.
