The Hypnotist from the Bus Stop: a theatrical project that slows down time
At the turn of February and March 2026, a new chamber theater project, The Hypnotist from the Bus Stop, will premiere. The author and sole performer is Šimon Pečenka, who combines acting experience with long-term work with hypnotic, therapeutic language in the performance.
The starting situation is simple: a man is waiting for a bus. However, during the wait, themes of haste, silence, family, reconciliation, and returning to oneself open up. The simple framework gradually transforms into a calm, sometimes humorous, and at times very quiet journey through the "stops" of human life.
The performance straddles the line between a poetic monologue and subtle work with the audience's attention. The language, rhythm of speech, and pauses are based on the principles of indirect communication, inspired by Milton Erickson's hypnotic approach and elements of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques. However, it is not a performance about hypnosis or even a hypno show – rather, it is an experience that naturally clears the mind of stress, calms, and slows down perception.
The direction is handled by experienced TV director Vojta Nouzák, who emphasizes naturalness, authenticity, and precise rhythm. The result is a performance without grand effects, relying primarily on words, presence, and trust between the actor and the audience.
The Hypnotist from the Bus Stop is written for one actor, lasts approximately 75 minutes, and is intended primarily for intimate spaces – small theaters, tea houses, community centers, or unconventional cultural venues. The closeness and inner collaboration of the audience is a key component of the entire project.
