Embroideries, which are the main symbol of this Ukrainian holiday, are not just decorations – they carry identity, history, and protection. At the event, you will be able to view traditional products, enjoy a musical accompanying program, but above all, you can expect a rich gastronomic offer from Ukrainian chefs. Dishes such as borscht, dumplings with various fillings, Ukrainian pastries and pancakes, pirozhki, chebureki, Ukrainian golubtsi, potato specialties, and meat prepared according to family recipes will be available for tasting.
“We perceive Vyshyvanka Day as a traditional event that enjoys great interest every year. This holiday is an opportunity to support the Ukrainian community, present its rich traditions, gastronomy, and culture to the wider public, and at the same time create a space where artists, families, and friends can meet and feel really good,” says Michal Tošovský, program director of Holešovická Tržnice.
Children's choirs, guitars, and Ukrainian reggae
The folkloric theme of the event will once again naturally connect the atmosphere of the market with music, dance, and stories hidden in every stitch. The musical accompanying program will feature, among other performances, two children's choirs – Kroky dobra and the newly formed Dreamers ensemble – whose pure voices will bring an unforgettable energy and hope to the space. “The twelve-member vocal ensemble Dreamers was formed two years ago. The children are refugees from various parts of Ukraine, who love their homeland very much and miss it. Through our singing, we want to convey the beauty of Ukrainian culture and songs,” introduces the children's ensemble Ms. Olga Bychko. Well-known faces from previous years will also perform on stage: guitarist and singer Nazar along with musician Solomnia, who will play the piano this year, the energetic duo Hanna Kovtun and Adam Čapek with gentle indie music, or Oleh Ljukljan, the frontman of the Ukrainian rock band Ukrapol.
Newly, the young Ukrainian reggae guitarist and singer Mykhailo Borozniak, who goes by the name Sun, will also perform. In his work, he combines reggae roots with sincere lyrics and has become a living voice that spreads messages of unity and love throughout Ukraine. He currently lives in Prague and continues to shine with his soulful performances that connect cultures and lift spirits. At Vyshyvanka Day in Holešovická Tržnice, he will perform a special set of popular Ukrainian pop/rock classics, which he will transform in his unique style. At the end of the event, Ukrainian DJ Andi Vegas, who regularly plays at events across Prague, will take the stage.
The event is co-produced with the Archetyp association About Us - Farmers' Markets, which annually brings several selected suppliers to the market, offering the most famous Ukrainian savory and sweet dishes, and Organization for Aid to Refugees (OPU), which ensures the handmade part of the event and to which the financial proceeds from voluntary admission will be donated.
