ROOM at the City Theatre of Mladá Boleslav or Who longs for eternal peace and why?

The Municipal Theater of Mladá Boleslav premiered last week (December 12, 2025) an original play by Kateřina Krobová and Vanda Hybnerová titled "Pokoj" (Room). It is a reality show in which personalities from Czech history compete for erasure from our shared hard drive and ignite a heated debate about who deserves that eternal peace.

New edition

Vanda Hybnerová brings humor, improvisation, and a theme that is decidedly provocative and current to the Mladá Boleslav theater. The digital world as a symbol of progress and a virtually boundless space full of traps. Six personalities from Czech history and our cultural heritage will not rest easy with how their legacy is treated. The motivation in this entertaining competition show is therefore a permanent delete. Who will actually enter the competition will be revealed to the audience only on stage. Whose legacy could society miss? For whom would the greatest reward be to be forever forgotten?

“The idea for this play arose from the need to express the fate of the artist after their death and the handling of their legacy, which is still used, abused, and often devalued by society. A posthumous reality show, in which six well-known personalities will appear, about whose posthumous fate and desired 'peace' the audience will be able to decide. The actors in the second part improvise, so each performance of this play will bring a different ending. I believe we have managed to create an interactive comedic production with depth for the Mladá Boleslav theater that will entertain the audience, even with sometimes dark humor.”

The results are in the hands of the audience. And how will they vote? The characters, passionate about the game, earthly fate - all of this can be a clue during voting. It is the audience that will decide who enters the Room. The results will surprise the actors, who will react directly on stage in the improvised duel. The rawness of the magical “here and now” is the essence of stage presence, and in improvisation, both creators and the audience can fully experience it. What kind of mirror will the voting itself and its results hold up to the audience?

The main weapon in the improvised duel will be the trend of today’s times, which is being indulged in by many on social networks and online platforms under the guise of apparent anonymity. Ruthless hate. Words can wound like a weapon, and perhaps the desire to win will even lead to a real fight. Although, what can hurt more than a well-aimed insult to the solar plexus?

The evening from beyond the grave will be hosted by Michal Kern as the Joker. He has no mercy, but he has a devilishly good show and vibe. Other roles will feature Veronika Bajerová, Hana Marie Maroušková, Karolina Frydecká, Lucie Matoušková, Milan Ligač, Petr Prokeš, and Jarmil Škvrna. Become a part of the game, where it’s about more than just life!
