Printing House – touch the history of printing

Experience the magic of old printing up close in the unique Printing House – a museum of printing. This unique place will take you back to the times when Gutenberg's invention surprised the world. You can view, touch, and even try out all the exhibits.

With your own eyes, you will see the 180-year-old hand printing press of Christian Dingler from 1840 or the unique American typesetting machine Intertype. The exhibition includes mechanical printing machines and equipment from printers and bookstores from 1850 to the mid-20th century. And that's not all – the museum also offers rare photographs from the operation of the Kutná Hora printing house, nearly 80 years old.

And what if you tried being a printer? On a 100-year-old machine, you can print your own postcard, which will be an unforgettable souvenir from your visit.

UNESCO celebrations and culture at every turn

The year 2025 is a significant period for Kutná Hora – it marks the 30th anniversary of its inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Celebrations will take place throughout the year and will offer a plethora of (not only) cultural events.

The first of these, introduced by a vernissage on Thursday, January 9, is the exhibition project "Silently striving for beauty". In the Kutná Hora Community House, this unique project connects traditional crafts, customary objects, and modern design. Visitors will be able to admire over 40 exhibits that bring a new perspective on the heritage of our ancestors. The exhibition is open to the public every day until February 16.

In March, the celebrations of the inscription will offer a unique Festival of Light (March 21 – 23), during which 5 locations in Kutná Hora will light up thanks to light installations and video mapping. This enchanting spectacle will offer evening tours of Kutná Hora's monuments and light design from Friday to Sunday.

From Carnegie Hall to Rudolfinum. Violin virtuoso Blake Pouliot will perform for the first time in the Czech Republic at the opening concert of the Prague Philharmonia.

The Prague Philharmonia will kick off its 33rd concert season on September 4th in the Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum. Under the baton of music director and chief conductor Emmanuel Villaume, the orchestra will feature Canadian violin virtuoso Blake Pouliot, who will be making his debut to the Czech audience on this occasion. On August 13, 2026, Milan Hein, the founder of the Prague Ungelt Theatre, will celebrate a significant life milestone of 80 years. From a damp Old Town cellar, he has built one of the most respected chamber stages in the Czech Republic over more than three decades. Although he retired in 2025, becoming an "emeritus principal," he remains the driving force of the entire theatre. This year, he opened a new theatre café - Café Hein - and still performs in two productions.
