The animated comedy Coyote vs. Shmejd brings back legendary Looney Tunes characters and humorously pokes fun at corporations, laws, and famous cartoon gags.

However, his peaceful life in solitude is disrupted by an unexpected visit from a French journalist. What begins as an ordinary interview gradually turns into an intense psychological duel, during which long-buried secrets, half-truths, and self-deceptions surface. The film is based on the famous play Enigmatic Variations by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, whose film rights the author protected for nearly thirty years. The Czech adaptation is the very first film adaptation of this world-renowned work.

ABANDONED

The French drama Abandoned reconstructs the real events that led to the murder of teacher Samuel Paty in 2020. During a single class, he opens the topic of freedom of speech and shows students caricatures of the prophet Muhammad. This is followed by an avalanche of disinformation, hatred, and institutional failure, culminating in a tragic end. Director Vincent Garenq does not only follow the crime itself but primarily the chain of events that preceded it. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and offers a powerful testimony about a society where lies and hateful campaigns on social media can change human lives within days.

SAMURAI AND THE PRISONER

Housing in the spotlight: The Film and Architecture Festival presents films that inspire and warn.

Under the motto To Be or Not to Be, the 15th edition of the Film and Architecture Festival will present an extraordinary collection of films that explore housing from various angles. From Wednesday, September 30 to Monday, October 5, 2026, it will visit Prague, Brno, and more than thirty other cities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The program will highlight different visions of residents, architects, politicians, and developers regarding the shape of cities and will introduce visionaries who have challenged established concepts of architecture and housing. It will also focus on how the environment around us influences our psyche and interpersonal relationships. "This year's theme touches each of us, so we wanted to create a program that appeals to the widest possible audience. The individual films use diverse filmmaking approaches and capture not only the final appearance of buildings but also the ideas and decisions behind their creation, as well as how people actually live in them," adds festival curator Václav Ševčík.
