We invite you to the workshop of the Rudolfinum Gallery, which responds to the exhibition Crested/mâcistan. We look forward to seeing you on November 1st at 2:00 PM!
The first hall of the exhibition Crested/mâcistan: Tanya Lukin Linklater and Duane Linklater is dominated by the monumental sculpture Rarebird (2025) by Duane Linklater. The enormous clay sculpture, whose name translates to Rare Bird, depicts a migratory crane. At each new location where it is displayed, this sculpture is renewed with local clay, hay, straw, and grass. In the tradition of the Cree nation, the crane is a symbol of protection and care for children in distress. It also represents a symbol of wisdom and equitable communication, reminding us that we should carefully and thoroughly consider what we say before we speak. Today, this species is threatened with extinction. The sculpture reminds us that climate change endangers many other animals as well.
