Can the entire architectural production of the 1990s be condemned as a whole? This is the question that the authors of the new book and the current exhibition at CAMP will raise.
We sometimes tend to look a bit askance at the architectural heritage of the 1990s. But can the entire production of the first post-revolutionary decade be condemned as a whole? This is the very question that the author team of a new book and current exhibition dedicated to Prague architecture of the 1990s will raise, presenting their curatorial selection of buildings from 1989 to 2004 during a lecture. The decade following the fall of communism brought significant changes to society, institutions, and building culture – and it is precisely within this dynamic that the work of that time needs to be read and reassessed. If we do not recognize its qualities in time, there is a risk that many buildings will face insensitive interventions or demolition.
