Paolo Cognetti does not only set his fictional characters in the high mountains, but also his own life.
For many years, he has lived alone under the massif of Monte Rosa on the border of Italy and Switzerland, where his most famous novel, "The Eight Mountains," takes place. In his latest documentary film, he presents not only this natural majesty, which is changing every year due to human influence, but also portrays the personal stories of Cognetti's mountain neighbors who have dedicated their lives to running mountain huts in the harsh yet beautiful rocky altitude, cut off from the hectic modern civilization. Together with them and his dog Laki, the director embarks on a journey and explores themes of friendship, solitude, the search for an authentic life, and the inevitability of change—whether in nature or in human life.
