The exhibition shows how the motif of duality has transformed from ancient myths to contemporary technologies, in works by Czech and world authors.
Narcissus and the reflection in water, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, or today's digital avatar – doubles have fascinated us for centuries. In literature, film, and visual arts, they recur time and again, as an evil omen, a split alter ego, but also as a protector. The exhibition shows how the motif of duality has transformed from ancient myths to contemporary technologies, in works by Czech and world authors, including Bohumil Kubišta, Jan Zrzavý, Andy Warhol, Milena Dopitová, and Petra Oriešková, and simultaneously in the context of philosophy, literature, and psychology. Come and take a glimpse into worlds where a person encounters themselves – sometimes with fear, other times with relief.
