In mid-May, over 20 winemakers will arrive in Prague. They will bring seven thousand bottles of rosé wine.

A total of 36 stalls, including 21 winemakers, tastings of rosé wines and clarets, along with suitable gastronomy and a rich accompanying program – all this will be offered at the 15th edition of the Růžový máj festival. It will take place on May 16th on the right bank of the Vltava River at Rašínovo nábřeží.

New edition

The festival will kick off on Saturday, May 16th at 11 AM on the Rašín Embankment in Prague. The festival will bring the best rosé wines and clarets from 21 Moravian and Czech winemakers, who will offer visitors over seven thousand bottles, mostly of rosé wine.  „As always, the wines will be tasted exclusively from festival glasses made in the Czech Republic with the festival logo. This way, the festival aims to minimize plastic waste, and it is clear that wine tastes much better from glass. The tasting set, which includes a 0.35l glass, a virtual tasting card with an overview of the winemakers and other information, and a pencil, will be available for purchase at the festival's ticket office on the day of the event. If a visitor does not want to taste wine, but for example, only drink non-alcoholic beverages or enjoy food at the stalls, they do not have to buy anything; entry to the festival, including the cultural program, is free,“ described Jiří Sedláček, the director of the Rosé May festival.

In addition to stalls offering rosé wines, there will be 15 stalls on-site featuring gastronomy suitable for pairing with rosé wines.  „We always try to select gastronomy that pairs well with rosé wines. There will be no shortage of Italian or Argentine specialties, Slovak pagáče, French delicacies, handmade pork sausages in a baguette from a craft bakery, homemade Belgian fries, great cold cuts and cheeses, and a variety of other delicacies. There will also be non-alcoholic options, great coffee, or beer,“ listed Jiří Sedláček.

However, the Rosé May festival is not just about drinking wine and great gastronomy; a music program is also prepared. „The festival will traditionally be accompanied by live music in the form of cimbalom music, the program will genre-shift to jazz and culminate in swing, among other things, so that attendees can dance if they wish. From 11 AM to 1 PM, the Cimbalom Band Trnka will play, between 2 PM and 4 PM, the so-called „one-man band“ Julian Knows from Moldova will perform, and from 4 PM, the band Jazz Volunteers will take the stage, followed by the lively Cuban music group Cubaché at 7:30 PM,“ concluded Jiří Sedláček.

The goal of the festival is to familiarize as wide an audience as possible not only with the production of rosé wines in the Czech Republic but also to offer them direct contact with their producers. In addition to tasting rosé wines and direct contact with winemakers, festival visitors will be offered the opportunity to pair wines with interesting gastronomy, as well as enjoy live music. The event is organized by the Archetyp association.
