At Váhy: a Smíchov inn where tradition truly carries weight.

At Váhy: a Smíchov inn where tradition truly carries weight.

There are places that a person cannot invent from a desk. They must develop slowly. Years. Decades. Sometimes even whole centuries. One such place is the Bürgerhaus U Váhy on Nádražní Street in Smíchov. A building that appears unremarkable at first glance hides within it the story of old Smíchov, family traditions, honest cuisine, and hospitality that is not often seen today. U Váhy is not just a place to go for a beer or lunch. It is a house with a memory.

New edition

A House That Remembers More Than Three Centuries

The history of the house goes deep into the past. The building is already marked on maps from 1713 and originally belonged to the Schwarzenberg family. Since then, the entire Smíchov has transformed – from a former suburban area through an industrial district to today’s vibrant urban center. But the house has remained.

And with it, its unique atmosphere. An atmosphere that cannot be created by any decoration or new furniture. It arises only where people have met for generations.

From Old Smíchov to Today’s Inn

The tradition of hospitality in this house has not been interrupted for more than 250 years. Over different periods, the owners, innkeepers, tavern keepers, and guests have changed, but one thing has remained the same – people came here for food, beer, meetings, and moments of ordinary human comfort. Locals, Smíchov families, workers from the surroundings, brewery employees, travelers, neighbors, and the peculiar characters of old Smíchov – from honest craftsmen to local drunks and people on the fringes of society, who simply belonged to the inns of that time.

Every era has left its mark here. And it is precisely from these marks that the atmosphere arises today, which cannot be artificially created. Only a house that has truly lived can have it.

Previously, the establishment was also known by the name U Škrobařů. The name U Váhy began to be used according to the town scale that stood opposite the inn. And this name has become a symbol of a place that has its firm place in Smíchov.

The Paškov Family and the Year 1917

An important milestone was the year 1917, when two days before Christmas, the house was bought by František and Marie Pašková. Since then, U Váhy has been associated with the Paškov family.

Today, this legacy is continued by Andělka and Petr Paškoví, who strive to preserve the inn's soul, story, and the atmosphere of the First Republic. They do not want to turn the inn into an anonymous establishment without a face. They want guests to feel that they have entered a house where history has truly lived.

And that is what makes the inn exceptional.

The Atmosphere of the First Republic and Honest Czech Cuisine

Today’s Municipal Inn U Váhy invites guests into a space tuned in the spirit of the First Republic. Here you will find Czech cuisine according to traditional recipes, draft beer, pleasant seating, and an environment suitable not only for a regular visit but also for family celebrations, meetings, corporate events, or closed gatherings.

U Váhy is a place where you can come just to sit. But also a place where you can celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, a party, a wedding, or meet with people you care about. Because some moments deserve an environment that has a story.

A Place That Has a Soul

Today, many new establishments are emerging in Smíchov. Modern, beautiful, fast, and perfectly polished. Váha is different. Its charm is not in trying to be new. Its charm lies in its memories. It remembers old Smíchov, family stories, the work of innkeepers, the voices of regulars, the aroma of the kitchen, the hustle and bustle of the local scene, and the times when similar inns dealt not only with food and drink but also with life. And that is why U Váhy has its place even today.

Come Experience an Inn That Has Its History

The Municipal Inn U Váhy is not just another establishment on the map of Prague. It is a Smíchov tradition, a family story, and a place where the past naturally meets the present. Come and stop by. For lunch, for a beer, for a celebration, for a meeting, or just to feel that you have entered a house where hospitality still has its weight.
