Founded by Augustinian monks in 1352, the brewery boasts a legacy deeply intertwined with Prague’s rich brewing tradition. Once the exclusive supplier to Prague Castle, St. Thomas beer was famously known as the only brew Czech kings would drink. Over the centuries, the brewery became a vibrant cultural hub, frequented by national revivalists and iconic Czech artists such as Jan Neruda, K. M. Čapek, and Bohumil Hrabal.
Today, guests can savor the tradition with St. Thomas dark lager – an unfiltered, unpasteurized beer brewed according to the monks' centuries-old secret recipe. Crafted exclusively by the renowned Matuška microbrewery, this distinctive lager is available nowhere else in the world, making each glass a rare and memorable taste of Czech brewing heritage.
The bar itself is an atmospheric blend of medieval and modern, with preserved Baroque frescoes, 17th-century stalactites, and glass floors that reveal ancient stonework beneath. Intimate lighting and sleek design details add a contemporary flair while honoring the historic soul of the space.
Complementing the signature lager is a menu of elevated Czech cuisine, featuring hearty classics like beef tartare and rich venison stew. Whether you’re a local or visitor, the St. Thomas Brewery offers a one-of-a-kind setting to relax, indulge, and soak in centuries of tradition over a truly exceptional pint.
