CYCLE TRIP TO PREHISTORY

CYCLE TRIP TO PREHISTORY

From Škodovka to Kokořínsko, this is how the 30 km long route from Mladá Boleslav to Mšeno can be briefly described. Minimum hills, plenty of historically protected villages, and even a windmill make this area more than an ideal cycling destination.

New edition

Along the Jizera River to Stránov Castle

The first section from Mladá Boleslav is relatively simple in terms of orientation and difficulty; just ride along the Jizera River on cycle route 17 – Greenway Jizera, until you reach the iconic Stránov viaduct. Turn right and connect to cycle route 143, which will take you to the valley of the Strenický stream. Before you pick up speed, be sure to visit the Neo-Renaissance Stránov Castle.

Around the Windmill

While riding along the Strenický stream, you will pass several small castles and historic villages such as Skalsko or Kluky, in addition to the beautiful nature. You can stop at the railway history museum in Sudoměř or at the Podkováň brewery. However, don’t linger too long, as one of the main destinations of your trip awaits you near the village of Vratno. The local windmill is open only during special events, but even just the view of it will surely not bore you. The local landmark is over 150 years old and has regained its lost beauty after years of neglect.

The Last Kilometers to Mšeno

It is about 20 kilometers from Mladá Boleslav to the windmill. For some, this is not much, for others, it is a lot. If you are in a hurry and your strength is waning, continue straight to Mšeno, from where you can comfortably travel anywhere by train. Otherwise, take a detour to the village of Lobeč, where a historic steam brewery stands. You can also figuratively hunt a mammoth in Lobeč, specifically at the museum of Eduard Štorch, the author of the legendary novel Mammoth Hunters.
