The biennial brings artistic practices that reflect the contemporary world and offer unexpected approaches to its interpretation and deeper understanding.
The exhibition and accompanying program of the Biennale In the Matter of Art 2026, subtitled Necessary Wishes, will take place in three main locations: at the National Gallery Prague – Trade Fair Palace in the Great Hall, at GAMPA – Gallery of the City of Pardubice, and at Tusculum Prague. The festive opening will take place on June 11, and the program of the opening weekend will last until Sunday, June 14, and will include performances, guided tours, and other events. More than 30 artistic projects will be presented at the biennale, including six new commissions prepared by Noor Abed, David Apakidze, Leila Basma & Zaher Jureidini, Yana Bachynska / Jan Bačynsjkyj, Adrián Kriška, and Aliza Orlan. The exhibition will be accessible for free throughout its duration, which is part of the long-term effort of the initiative tranzit.cz to mediate art to a wider audience. The biennale is organized by the non-profit initiative for contemporary art tranzit.cz in collaboration with the National Gallery Prague and the Gallery of the City of Pardubice.
