Pascal Elbé returns to cinemas with the film Happy Star, a dramatic comedy set in occupied France in 1940. The film, featuring Benoît Poelvoorde, Audrey Lamy, and Zabou Breitman, humorously and humanely addresses themes of courage, lies, and redemption. France, 1940. Jean Chevalin spends exactly one day in the war before deciding to desert. In desperation, he devises a plan that is as absurd as it is risky: to pose as a Jew in order to gain the help of smugglers and reach the free zone. This deception leads them on a journey full of misunderstandings, revelations, and emotions, during which Jean gradually discovers the value of solidarity and the absurdity of his prejudices. Straddling the line of historical farce, the film combines comedy and drama to reflect on cowardice and bravery in wartime. The film plays on the contrasts between the absurdity of the nonsensical plan and the seriousness of the situation while offering a universal reflection on human dignity.
