The Prague Museum Night will take place on June 13, 2026, at the Central Library and will be themed "the library behind the mirror."
Sometimes it’s enough to look in the mirror to see things, and perhaps even ourselves, a little differently. Just like that, during the Museum Night, the Central Library will present itself to you in the reflection of foil mirrors – both known and unknown at the same time. The evening program will not only be colorful but also lightly shrouded in mystery. Come and see for yourself! Program: Mysterious Walk through the Old Town Where: Main entrance of the Central Library When: 19:00 A guided walk will take you to places connected with Prague's legends. In ancient stories, you will meet the Iron Man or the tailor from the Green Frog house. Together we will also look at one of the narrowest houses in Prague and stop at the Church of Our Lady before Týn. Reflections of Pulsation Where: Creative Center When: 20:00–22:00 Come and create a unique relief frame from metal foil that transforms an ordinary mirror into a small artistic object. The technique of embossing into sheet metal is fascinating in its simplicity and immediate, striking results. Give your reflection a new dimension and take home a piece that will brighten your interior. Mirrors and metal foil will be available – a contribution for materials is 50 CZK. Quiz Gathering Where: Bay (space for educational literature) When: 20:15 Come and test your knowledge at a trivia quiz. Teams will compete in groups of five, and the questions will come from various fields. The winning team will receive book prizes and small gifts from sponsors. Quiz about Mysterious Places and Stories Where: Bay (space for educational literature) When: 21:45 In this quiz, you can test your knowledge of Prague. This time, the questions will relate to history, monuments, legends, and Prague's secrets. You can arrive at the library with your competition team or form a team on the spot. Again, you will compete for tangible prizes. Unique Books You Won't Find Elsewhere – Book Exhibition Where: Club Room When: 19:00–23:00 During World War II, MKP was mandated to remove and destroy thousands of books by "undesirable" authors or with unwanted themes. Our librarians showed great courage – they did not destroy the books but bricked them up in the building's basement. Thus, they have survived to this day, and you can come to see the most interesting ones. The exhibition will feature works by Masaryk, literature by legionnaires, books published by our Sokol groups, as well as titles dealing with Freemasons or writers of Jewish descent. Often, these are unique items you won't find elsewhere. Library and Guitar Tones Where: Bay (space for educational literature) When: 19:30–20:10 and 21:05–21:40 The evening will be enhanced by guitar music performed by Lucie Šťavíková. Thanks to dreamy and fiery tones, you will be transported to ancient times and various parts of the world. Both fans of classical repertoire and lovers of music from fairy tale films will enjoy it. VR Stop Where: Space for educational literature When: 19:00–23:00 Try virtual reality at the library! A station full of simple and fun applications awaits you, which both children and adults will enjoy – no prior experience is necessary. Just come and immerse yourself in a world of pure 3D fun. What Are You Scaring Here? Where: Department for Children and Youth When: 19:00–22:00 The children's department of the Central Library will transform into a place full of little ghosts and spirits of all kinds during the evening. A playful scavenger hunt is prepared, guiding children through the world of mysterious beings and leading them on the trails of tiny and mischievous spirits. The youngest visitors can join an art workshop and create their own ghost or little spirit. Board Game Fun Where: Workshop When: 19:00–22:30 Do you enjoy board games? Bring your family or friends and come play board games that you definitely don't have at home. The library has hundreds of them! Come try new games, and an experienced instructor will help you with selection and tips on-site. Film Screening: The Forest Where: Theater and Film Department When: 20:00–21:10 The Forest / United Kingdom 2024 / Directed by: Jamie Lochhead / 70 min. / in collaboration with Academia Film Olomouc / dramaturgical introduction In collaboration with Academia Film Olomouc, we will screen the documentary film The Forest, which will introduce viewers to the mysterious world hidden in the soil of forest ecosystems and the life within them. A dramaturgical introduction will also be included. Library Differently: Virtual Walk Where: Music Department When: 19:00–22:30 Experience an extraordinary adventure with virtual reality and take a walk through a digital library full of interactive elements that you can discover and control yourself. Interested parties can try various activities and features in the VR library. No prior experience with VR is needed; the operation is simple, and we will explain everything on-site. VR experiences can be reserved on the day of the event. Book Exchange Where: Vestibule of the Central Library When: 19:00–22:30 Do you have books that you have already read and would like to send "into the world" to other readers? Bring them along, and you will surely find something among the donated books. Dancing Library Where: Central Hall When: 19:30 and every following half hour The Light Dance Studio, led by choreographer Lenka Tretiagová, is a unique group that connects contemporary dance with physical theater and literature. Their performances are full of playfulness, emotions, and poetry that can bring even unconventional spaces to life. You can look forward to movement images and dance performances that will draw you into the world behind the mirror. These are short dance performances repeating every half hour, during which dancers will stroll through the library, creating unique performances.
