About Art Up Close: Sculptures Living in the Garden
Hidden, exceptional, romantic, the garden of the Sternberg Palace is often described as such. It reveals a view of the most beautiful architectural form of the palace, allows a glimpse into the Deer Moat, and presents an extraordinary opportunity for contemplation under majestic trees. However, the tranquility of the garden is only apparent. Is the athletic Odysseus not attacking the woman playing with the dolphin? Is there no danger to the girl who cautiously approaches the pond? Probably not. The stork continues to intently observe the fish in the water and is not disturbed. Let’s uncover the possible interactions of the figures encoded in bronze and stone in this magical garden together. An exclusive selection of Czech sculpture from the 20th century offers us this opportunity. We will walk past the sculptures of Jan Štursa, Jan Lauda, and Hana Wichterlová. Presented by Jitka Handlová.
