The Czech Press Photo 2025 exhibition will be held at the New Building of the National Museum.
The photograph of the year was a shot from the series titled "The Work of Miners at the ČSM-Sever Mine (OKD)," by Lukáš Kaboň from Deník. The award for lifetime achievement in photography was received by the legendary Czech documentary photographer, native of Ostrava, Viktor Kolář. In the 31st edition of the Czech Press Photo competition, nine photographic categories were announced. Seven traditional categories: News; Reportage; Everyday Life; Art and Culture; Sports; People and the Environment; People Who Are Talked About. And two new categories: "For three decades, the Czech Press Photo competition operated at the federal level – it was open to both Czech and Slovak authors. The 31st edition was an ideal opportunity for change. Now, only Czech authors submit images to the main categories, but we want to support photojournalism in the broadest and highest possible scope, which is why we announced a new special award, Project Europe. This is intended for photographers from all over Europe, including Czech and Slovak authors. The winner of the Project Europe category was documentary photographer Sean Gallup, who shoots for Getty Images in Germany. His documentary series titled "Scientists Conduct Measurements on the Melting Rhône Glacier in Switzerland" provides alarming testimony regarding the state of the climate and the terrifying pace of glacier disappearance. We believe that the participation of foreign photographers enhances the prestige of the competition and, above all, enriches the exhibition," says Czech Photo director Veronika Souralová. "The new category Life in the Czech Republic opened up space for photographers who address topics with lasting significance. We received a number of works that offer a deeper insight into the events and stories shaping our society and life in the Czech Republic. The category provides space and opportunity for authors operating in the regions, as strong and authentic stories deserving attention often emerge there. The winner was Zdeněk Dvořák with his series of photographs "The Last Lions in Bohemia," which depicts the environment of the last circus where these majestic beasts are kept," says Czech Press Photo competition manager Dan Materna.

However, he is definitely not ready for the scrap heap, or rather, the woodpile. For his centenary, he has gifted himself a new film adventure. This time, he and Mánička will travel all the way to distant Tramtárie, where they must save not only their four-legged friend Žeryk, who is on the menu of a greedy carnivore, but also fix the broken water cycle. To uncover why a devastating drought has struck the kingdom, they need to understand how nature works. Such knowledge can be useful not only to them but also to all the little and big viewers. Therefore, accept the invitation to Hurvínek's journey to Tramtárie; tickets will be available in cinemas from April 16.
