From summer until the last September, the exhibition project of curator Petr Vaňous called STOP is prepared for the 30th anniversary of the inscription of Kutná Hora on the UNESCO World Heritage List. STOP is a presentation of works of contemporary art in the spaces of historical buildings and churches in the area of Kutná Hora with an extended radius to the surrounding municipalities.
STOP reminds us that there are no boundaries between contemporary art and the art of past epochs. Certain themes transcend time and cyclically repeat, expressing respect for life, being a manifestation of solidarity with human fate and suffering. Besides Kutná Hora, do not forget to visit the neighboring municipalities of Nové Dvory with the Church of St. Anne and St. Nicholas with the Kačina Castle.
Indian summer will distinguish Kutná Hora with several musical performances.
A majestic and emotional musical experience will be offered by on Friday, September 26, the concert of the boys' choir Bonifantes under the direction of Jan Míšek and organist Viktor Darebný. Those who prefer jazz should mark the date October 25, when the world-renowned jazz guitarist Rudy Linka will perform in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist in Sedlec. The unconventional blending of jazz music with the space of sacred architecture will delight many listeners, especially since Rudy Linka will perform with five-time Grammy Award winner Gil Goldstein.
Traditionally, during the last September Saturday, Kutná Hora will come alive with St. Wenceslas celebrations, which combine the celebration of the patron of the Czech lands, local wine, and good music. In 2025, again on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Kutná Hora's inscription on the UNESCO list, the celebrations in the historic center will be expanded in Šultysova Street with a folk and singer-songwriter scene, where bands such as Hluboké Nedorozumění, Epydemye, or Isara will perform. In this area, visitors will also find craft markets and a showcase of local breweries.
On the central Palackého Square, there will be a stage with pop & rock music, and the project Hrubá Hudba, Jakub König & Hvězdy, Bert & Friends, Lenka Dusilová with her band, and Soul Uncles will inject energy into the veins of the listeners. Interested parties can visit for a tasting of Czech wines at the monastery of St. Voršila from 2 PM.
Did you know that the Church of St. Barbara has its own film?
Yes, and you can also come to its premiere. Where else, but of course in the very monument dedicated to the patroness of miners and Kutná Hora. For centuries, the church has attracted pilgrims from all over the world not only with its majestic architecture set in a landscape with a rich spiritual past but also unites people across denominations for experiences that transcend the tangible world.
The ceremonial presentation and screening of the short film "ALIVE BARBORA: the Church of St. Barbara as a living meeting place" will take place on October 16, 2025, at 6:30 PM.
November 9 offers the last opportunity to view the unusual exhibition Fabulae de Monte Cuthna at the Czech Museum of Silver in Hrádek. It tells three powerful medieval stories connected with the history and legends of Kutná Hora. Three authors – Nina Kirk, Martina Minařík Pavelková, and Kristýna Nejedlá Bujárková – each processed the stories into multimedia form using their own artistic language and modern interpretation.
The exhibition transforms the spaces of the Czech Museum of Silver into an interactive experience where visitors can use all their senses.
