The lecture will explore the diversity of Christian architecture in Asia and present its development in connection with the activities of missionaries, traders, and colonial powers. It will demonstrate how Christian traditions were reflected in the forms of churches, cathedrals, monasteries, and mission buildings, and how their architecture was influenced by local building materials, craftsmanship techniques, and the cultural environment of individual regions. Using examples from India, the Philippines, China, Japan, and other regions, it will showcase significant monuments of Christian architecture and illustrate how European architectural models transformed when encountering Asian traditions.
