Currently, the NGP manages more than 399,000 collection items, and the ways of acquiring them have been diverse. Part of the collection was obtained by the NGP thanks to the acquisition activities of its predecessors: the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art, whose 230th anniversary of establishment we are commemorating this year, and the Modern Gallery. Donations and legacies from private collectors also played a crucial role: Josef Hoser, Vojtěch Lanna, Josef Thomayer, Leopold Katz, Vincenc Kramář, and many other personalities. The history of the 20th century is reflected in the collection through confiscations by the Nazi and communist regimes, which the NGP dealt with during the 1990s. The lecture by Veronika Hulíková will shed light on the paths of specific artworks into the NGP collections, the life stories of their original owners, and the current acquisition policy of the NGP.
