Doubravka Lookout Tower: View from the Nest

Doubravka Lookout Tower: View from the Nest

Do you feel like going on a little trip? Then head to Doubravka. The unique 23.5 meters high lookout tower in the Čihadla nature park in Prague 14 was designed by architect Martin Rajniš. To the top of this gem, adorned with a three and a half meters high flag, you will be led by 98 steps.

New edition

The building is the result of efforts to create a modern and at the same time ecological structure that would harmoniously blend into the surrounding nature. The lookout tower is made of larch wood, giving it a natural appearance, and its construction resembles intertwined tree branches or a nest.

The lookout tower also features steel elements. Over three thousand bolts were used in the construction. The construction took place from June 2017 to June 2018, and a year later it received the National Architecture Award.

In Flames

However, in the same year, it was also attacked by vandals who set it on fire in the early hours of November 20, 2019. One of the three stabilizing parts of the lookout tower up to a height of about six meters was on fire, but firefighters managed to extinguish the tower quickly. The building was repaired before the end of 2019.

Doubravka is now, among other things, the first publicly accessible newly built lookout tower in Prague since 1992 when the Žižkov Tower was completed. It offers visitors beautiful views of Prague and its surroundings. From the observation platform, a panoramic view opens up to the eastern part of the city, adjacent villages, and the surrounding natural scenery, including the Čihadla Forest Park. On a clear day, you can even see distant mountain ranges, such as the Krkonoše or the Central Bohemian Highlands.

Nature and Culture

Doubravka is also an ideal place for nature lovers and walks. The Čihadla Forest Park where it is located is a peaceful and pleasant place for hiking, cycling, or picnics. The surrounding nature is home to many species of plants and animals.
