Aphkhazeti is a unique combination of Georgian dance, deeply rooted in the traditions of this nation, with contemporary choreography and music.
It is a company with nearly a century of history, officially founded in 1931, that constantly performs around the world, bringing to audiences everything that is most beautiful about Georgian culture - tradition, folklore, and incredible energy. The war in Abkhazia and the subsequent Russian occupation of the entire region forced the artists to relocate to Tbilisi in 1992. However, despite the hardships, APKHAZETI has maintained its character, skills, and unique vibrancy. In March 2021, with the arrival of the young and talented artistic director, the legendary Bachan Chanturia, a new era in the history of the company began. He invited well-known Georgian composers, and together they prepared a unique musical accompaniment, and this program - Choreonicon - will be presented in the Czech Republic! APKHAZETI presents traditional fragments of Georgian music in a completely new rendition, performed live by the orchestra, as well as impressive dances from various regions interpreted by the legendary Bachan Chanturia! The innovation has been so groundbreaking that over the past two years, the company has performed in many regions of Georgia and also concerts outside its borders.
